P.J. O'Rourke

The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it.

About HSACoop

We are a group of concerned doctors, health professionals, patients, and concerned citizens across this wonderful country who realize that it is time to swing the pendulum the complete opposite way; to finally give DOCTORS - those who took the Hippocratic oath and spent years of study and training in Medicine - and YOU, our patients, our inalienable and right to control health care (vs. "right for healthcare").

For decades we delegated the business side of Medicine to non-physicians in order for us, your doctors, to spend more time with you, our patients, and to focus on advancing the science of Medicine. Consequently over the last several decades our knowledge in basic science, new technology, medical products, etc, has skyrocketed. Some say that 90% of what we now know in Medicine we learned over the last 100 years.

However, now we are faced with a crisis of the false morality of a government handout - the purported "free healthcare" and the carrot of the “public option”. Nothing can be further from the truth. Thomas Jefferson once said: "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." (Letter to Thomas Cooper (29 November 1802). Any doctor who has not sold themselves to the enemy, knows that the current healthcare “system” is broken (not to be confused with “medical care” see separate future blog also on this topic). We, in this country still have the best “medical care” compared to any other country. Why?

Because of "American ingenuity,” free enterprise, and doctor’s self policing “peer review”. This, however, is no longer the case. With the onslaught of government intervention and regulations, Medicine has essentially been thrown back to the dark ages where “standard of medical care” was decided by bishops and priests. Today, instead, we call them “healthcare czars”, bureaucrats, and “board members,” etc. Peer review has been completely bastardized and doctors have fewer rights now in the current Administrative laws and HCQIA than criminals.

Ronald Reagan said: "Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them." This is the truth. Instead of reducing the national debt, this Administration now calls for massively expanding the existing Medicaid system by deceiving more people (purportedly the uninsured, etc) into this already broken system. Really? Why not first do the most obvious? I.e. get Medicaid patients out of the Medicaid system? There is a way.

The immediate answer is to stop this freight train in Congress intent on destroying American Medicine for the false pretense of “for the general welfare” [of the public]. Our long term solution is to convince as many people to immediate start their own health savings and pool our voluntary accounts into one massive fund to be used only for the purpose of buying out as many hospitals and other healthcare systems to create the quintessential and unprecedented healthcare system owned and operated by ... us! That’s right you and me! Which to you think is better – the government’s claim of “free healthcare” or “healthcare” owned by you? Think about it.
